Always Been To The Right - Politically Homeless

Real people. Real letters. Real problems. No solutions.
10

Politics these days have become so divided and divisive that it’s become the norm to view the other side of the aisle as “the enemy”. People are being told to “pick a side” and that there’s no room for middle ground. We here at Phetasy believe that there are a lot more people in the middle than politicians and the media would have us believe.

We’re collecting stories from the ever growing number of people who are finding themselves Politically Homeless and posting them here on Substack. If you have moved from conservative to liberal, or liberal to conservative, if you feel you’ve stayed in the same place and your party has swerved drastically away from you, if you had a moment that awakened you to the insanity and hypocrisy on both sides, if you keep your mouth shut anytime a political topic comes up because you’re afraid your opinion will cause you to lose friends or your job, you’re not as alone as you might think.

Our goal is to shine a light on people’s earnest, individual experiences and show them they’re not alone.

Some letters have been edited for clarity and brevity. If you’re politically homeless and would like to share your story, please email us at iampoliticallyhomeless@gmail.com. All submissions will remain anonymous.

Letter 76:

Hello

Allow me to introduce myself. After spending 15 years in Europe in the luxury fashion business, working for clients including Gucci, Dior and Chanel, I moved back to the USA in 2012.

I was tired of being the only vocal conservative in an intolerant industry. Furthermore wanted to raise my son in a country where I did not have to wait 6 months for an elective doctor’s appointment. You only have to wait 3 months if you are bleeding to death.

I have always been to the right. I volunteered for President HW Bush during college and GW Bush later on. Including being a young delegate at both their inaugurations.

When President Trump was running I was not initially convinced of his qualifications nor his intentions. However as the campaign year went on I began to see that he aligned more with my ideology than any other Republican candidate I had previously supported. Therefore I began to campaign for him in 2016.

I live in an affluent suburb where every other house had a BLM or Hate Has No Home Here sign. The irony being that none of these families has had a Muslim nor minority in their homes unless they are the hired help.

Their hypocrisy only compelled me to become even more vocal.

In 2020 I once again volunteered for President Trump.

This time I supported either DeSantis or Trump but moreso for the latter.

For me my vote is to keep any liberal out of office so if I have to compromise in order to do so, I will.

My son’s future is the most important thing to me and Democrats are working to destroy his opportunities due to a crusade against the Christian white male. I will do everything in my power to allow him to live a life without a target on his back simply because he is a certain demographic.

Sincerely,

Politically Homeless
