Everyone cares about the cost of living, but the way Mamdani talks about it, he is a classic--maybe THE classic--demagogue. His lack of experience, lack of any kind of real employment (i.e., real life) experience, his giving off of a scent that he's been groomed for this, his embrace of public policy initiatives (defund the police, government-run grocery stores, a freeze on rents--all of which will result in their own kind of disaster), pose a real threat to the City of New York. But scarier than his embrace of unworkable "solutions," is his desire to "globalize the Intifada," which essentially means bringing radical Islamism into your living room. He has this autonomic smile which borders somewhere between sincere and creepy, but if things were to follow his impulses they would likely mean that his hoard of supporters would lop off heads while he grins with his slightly creepy smile.
