I really appreciate how Batya highlights the failure or both parties to truly change their positions in order to keep their jobs. Politicians don’t have job security if they actually do something, and they’d have even less job security if people were more responsible for their own lives. The more independent and responsible we are as Americans, the less the government can control and do. I agree that too many people want government to be their daddy and too much faith has been put into politicians that are made into demigods with their own mythology.
Absolutely brilliant talk! It's interesting how many of these issues are happening elsewhere. I'm a Brit (now living in Hungary) and have been reading a lot about how issues such as uncontrolled immigration, crime, the housing and cost of living crisis have led to utter disillusionment with the current government, yet working class people are sneered at by those better off for turning towards populism, out of desperation (e.g the Reform party) Also, interesting what you mentioned about trades. This is something I've been noticing for years. Vocational schools have always been popular here in Hungary, but in recent years more and more young people are going straight to uni from high school, thinking a degree is the best way to get ahead, and in many cases, they go on to do a second degree, sometimes even a third. Trades have become less and less popular. Then the brain drain happened. When Hungary joined the EU, many tradespeople (for example, plumbers) went to places like Germany, or the U.K, where they could earn much more money. Same with doctors and dentists. As a result, there's a perfect storm situation of fewer people learning a trade combined with a brain drain of the ones that did. Now if you need a plumber or builder, there's a long waiting list and the workers are often doing multiple jobs at the same time.
TrustFund babies. Now running for Mayor in a city decimated by the Non profit culture we got here. Just drenching our neighborhood. It's all so vacuous and seedy amorality. Tsk hurumph.
Maybe if American teachers did a better job, we wouldn't have to seek talent overseas cuz they can perform calculus and we can't. For example, AI apps like Grammerly do all the writing. Keeping the resourcefulness of our people underwater. Yikes!!
The American Dream is being wrecked by 3rd world aristocrats chumping up their entitled pretentious immaturity to relaunch the caste societies they came from, over here. So what if a two bedroom that was $995/month is now $3995/month. With 1/4 the space. They're here now and life begins with their arrival. "Reporting" from The Phantom Coast... Let's embrace the Western Pacificants. They took care of COVID like juvenile delinquents, btw, w/college degrees from Confuscious College Preparatory. Good F-ing Gravy!! ;-)

Great interview, just bought Batya's book. I really enjoyed and appreciated her insight.

"Why Hitler resonates with the working class?" ???
Don't think that "resonance" is necessarily a good thing.
