Loved this. As a musician it pains me to see so many artists so ignorant to the importance of freedom of speech. Clifton is a shining light. Thank you for having him on.

I've recently come to learn more about Clifton through other podcasts he's been on. Definitely an interesting guy and I'm curious to see this play he's putting on. Maybe I don't necessarily agree with him on things, but I love being challenged.

Thank you Bridget and Clifton for this beautiful conversation. This cut deeply personal for me, and I relate so much what you both shared as creatives -- it truly feels like an artery is cut off when one can't find a place to share their art because of politics / culture wars. And though I know it might not have been his top choice, Clifton speaking out 4 years ago about Covid mandates (and his continued steady voice of reason and humanity on a host of issues) gave me and my family courage to also speak out and leave CA for Austin, Texas 2 years ago. You never know how much your voice touches and matters to people out there -- Thank you. I'll look forward to reading / seeing Clifton's play!

Yes, well, politics has ruined pretty much everything else. Why should the arts be exempt from a mindless delusion and destruction so universally embraced and cherished?

Very glad you're talking to Clifton, Bridget. I was going to ask you to get him on WIW, and now I don't even have to. Looking forward to this.

Loved this convo!

Loved the shoutout to Bluey! (Made in my hometown!)

I definitely think the malaise we have is in part due to the devaluation/ removal of the arts from society. There is too much mimicry and repetition in mass culture and not enough creating of NEW work/ideas. We aren’t able to truly express ourselves in creative ways and that kind of blockage creates a toxic build up.

Regarding conservatives and the arts, it used to be that traditional education would include the classics of poetry, literature and plays (like Shakespeare) that everyone seemed to be able to quote off the top of their head. That no longer seems to be in fashion for either side for varying reasons which is a shame. We don’t take art seriously and it shows.

Meghan Murphy has a shirt for sale with ‘gay & retarded’ 🤣🤣 It’s on my wish list.
