Same as the pro life vs pro choice debate. I will not reveal what my preferences are but the debate is currently being framed as “no abortion for any reason ever” vs “elective abortion up to birth and even a bit after too, cuz why not”. That represents nobody I know. AFAIK most people are ok with if first trimester, less ok with it second trimester, and very not ok with it third trimester. Which is also the legal consensus most countries in the world come to; where I used to live in Europe, it was ok up to 14 weeks, then it was very hard to get. We must all be watching this fight with absolute bewilderment because who ARE these people fighting?

I think the abortion issue is a perfect example of our current political world. The extremes on both ends of the spectrum get all the attention. And both parties are fine with it, because they don't want to solve anything. They want these issues to campaign on, because it galvanizes their base and helps with campaign donations.

How can we demonize my political opponents, if we compromise and find solutions?

Sadly I wouldn't be surprised if there are some people who wanted everyone to be politically homeless. Not sure it's a coordinated plan, but it's definitely concerning.
