I followed much the same trajectory. I went back and forth for awhile, didn't vote at all for years, then after Obama, said Eff the D's for good, they were obviously more interested in war and money and the shutting down of things like free speech and rights to protest than they had let on for the last few decades. To be honest, I should have seen the writing on the wall early in the Iraq war years when our US representative (who is still in office serving his masters) had a number of peaceful demonstrators who simply gathered one day a week and quietly hung out and waved at cars, arrested for tresspassing. It was obvious they were going to 'keep their powder dry' the whole time. They were no more interested in ending that war than the neo-cons were, but put on a show for the rubes in the cheap seats.

When Trump was elected, I didn't care. In fact, I was relieved Hillary Kissinger wasn't. But I was amazed at the meltdown of the liberals (including family and many friends) at Trump's elevation to office. I think the corporate media has a lot to answer for for this. I used to see my late husband watch the Stephen Colbert 2-minute hate and other associated shows. He would get so worked up and start using the show's talking points. I noticed the same phenomena among others around me. The only friends around me whom I related to were people like me who don't watch TV or are not inherently 'joiners'. Funny thing, those same friends are still my friends because they saw through covid too.

Anyway, great comment. I think there are more of us out there than is being let on.
