Phetasy News - Worry When the Tomatoes Are Ripe
American Karen, AB5 Going National Will Be A Disaster, Politically Homeless - Will Never Vote For Trump Again, Is The Alpha Male Going Extinct? & Phetasy Merch!
Greetings from the Phetaverse!
If you pay attention to the news, it seems all but official: the 2024 election will be a repeat of the 2020 election. For some people that’s exciting. For many others it inspires fear. Some people (usually pundits trying to stir the pot) are convinced this will end in Civil War. For a lot of us Gen-X “politically homeless” types, I feel nothing but “meh, whatever.” I’m doing my best not to be so melodramatic about it all.
I’m determined to stay focused on the issues that will affect all Americans. These are the ones that conveniently get swept under the rug or don’t get covered by mainstream or even new media. God forbid we find common ground. This week on Walk-Ins Welcome I spoke to Representative Keven Kiley about a new Independent Contractor rule that the Biden Administration plans to put into effect on March 11. It will affect tens of millions of Americans. If you want to know more about it—I suggest you listen to the interview.
I could be wrong, but I’m surprisingly optimistic about the state of America. One of the stand-up routines I’m currently working on is about how America is too fat for another Civil War. In order to do the bit the justice it deserves, I’m diving into the history of the Civil War and its aftermath. What absolutely wild times it was in this country. One thing life was not—was convenient. The average human was so much more competent than we are thanks to all of our modern conveniences. They could start a fire and sew and make butter. Death and disease were common. People were tough.
Modern times have softened us up. We lost power here in Texas during last week’s freeze for twenty whole minutes and I sat there thinking, “Well, this sucks.” My plan this year is to become more competent. I’m going to plant a garden. I’m going to focus on my immediate community. Neighbors are having babies and I want to cook for them. I will stay focused on my family and on my own personal and professional goals.
Speaking of that—we made a fun video outlining all of our projects here at Phetasy for people who might be confused about what it is we’re doing here. Check it out!
I’ll worry about the election when the tomatoes are ripe. In the meantime, I’m looking for garden tips. I don’t have a huge yard so I’ll probably end up doing beds somewhere. Trying to figure out where the best place to put them will be so they don’t get too blasted by the sun but also get enough light. If you’ve got a green thumb—I want to hear your tips!
