I moved to NH from Mass 11 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made (and only moved about 100 miles). Blue states, especially heavily blue states like California, New York, and Oregon are going to get dramatically worse than they are now

Congratulations on your decision! California is beautiful, but with the cost of living, bad infrastructure, and population of crazies, it sounds like its time to leave. You don't have to wholeheartedly commit to Texas - perhaps Austin won't be where you settle longterm... or... perhaps it will be! A new adventure awaits! I hope you all are very happy there!

Do it! Made the move to TX two years ago from Salt Lake City and it was the best thing I did for for my family. I’d take hot shitty weather (only 3 months out of the year) over hot shitty people in LA (year round) any day.

One small step toward civility

One giant leap toward civil war

I've only been alive for a little over a fifth of all US history and in the sentient part of that span I don't recall this country being this divided.

People blame recent politics and politicians for "unleashing the crazy" and while there may be something to that, by definition that means "the crazy" was already here, and it was just a matter of time until the collar broke loose.

Where do we go from here? A terrifying pandemic did not bring us together in a fight for our very lives. It only deepend the fissures. There are daily humanitarian crises yet only useful ones are reported on as promotional material for someone's agenda. In lieu of actually helping those in crisis, people decorate social media with the cause de jour generated by OUTRAGE ™ and then continue to surf the net for Pass or Smash on Tik Tok.

Does the American marriage have irreconcilable differences?

We have two separate universes existing in one country. We are a nation divided, but half the country wouldn't even get the irony because they don't recite the pledge.

Where do we go from I here? This reminds me of The Stand. People found other survivors and pilgrimaged to Las Vegas with their respective contigents. We are slowly in the stage where we are, one family at a time, flocking to states or cities, not for opportunity or climate, but despite opportunity and for political climate. Ideology.

And often today, that means safety.

As an Independent, I don't know what that looks like. I want a strong police presence but could do without routine gun violence, especially in schools. I want tolerance, but not dictatorial pressure to accept lunacy. I want free speech unless you are a Nazi. I want intact history so that I can learn from the mistakes and embrace the found wisdom, but not here, in a state that realizes these aspirations.

I am the Veruca Salt of the American Dream.

And Roald Dahl was just cancelled.

Bridget, Bridget, Bridget, Austin IS California! It's one of the most left-wing cities in America. Former governor Rick Perry once described it as a grape floating in a bowl of Tomato soup. Nashville, Tennessee is another left-wing town that attracts Californians. I don't listen to Joe Rogan - and barely know who he is - but it doesn't surprise me he is in Austin. There is Texas and then there is Austin.

“The other thing I’ve noticed being here is that my own energy level has skyrocketed, which is the real tell to me that I’m ignoring my soul’s call. I’m comfortable, which is nice, but I’m too comfortable and I’m starting to wilt, like a plant that has outgrown her pot.” This really rang bells for me. Follow the energy, follow your heart.
