Go to the nearest window. Look out for a full minute. Write about what you saw.
Hummingbirds play. Squirrels and birds and bees go about their business. Hope comes outside to investigate and disrupts the squirrel eating a fallen orange from the orange tree. All the critters scramble and Hope meanders back inside after doing her business in the yard and sniffing around.
The orange tree is blossoming and also bearing fruit. The kumquat tree is exploding with tasty sweet tart citrus bursts from all the rain. More coming tomorrow. You can feel it in the air. The hummingbirds reappear.
The grass is green, I’m glad I made the effort and put in the investment to grow it. Always leave a place better than you found it. I’m burning this view into my brain, viewing it differently, the way you view something when you know it will soon be a memory.
Looking out from the lobby of the building I work in. I see clumps of snow, and a large truck with men lifting large boxes from its behind. A medley of poorly parked beige and grey cars reflect not only the sky, but my current mood too.
I am sitting in my car, in the library lot, trying to wake up for the day. So, it was the perfect opportunity to stare out my car window and check out the area.
From where I was sitting, I see a fenced-in, open field. There are a few people taking their morning walk around. The air is cool and crisp, so, many of them are in their fall jackets. Across the way, I see Main St., which from where I sit, I see the local Italian deli, an Italian restaurant, and an Irish pub. None of these places are open just yet, but they will be around 11:00 AM.
There are some cars parked at the side street parking; probably, the employees looking to start their day. Considering it was so early in the morning, the hustle and bustle of the town has yet to begin.
I, then, notice the weather and, unfortunately, it is a grim day in the New York State. There’s a threat of rain in the air and I am awaiting the inevitable downpour. By this point, I have finished my drink and have woken up sufficiently. I suppose it is time to clock into work.
