This past week on Dumpster Fire I mentioned that I might quit doing the show and dozens of you responded by becoming paid supporters. It made me realize how many people love the show and find value in it, something that is easy to forget when it feels like I’m just screaming into the ever expanding void more often than not.
Sometimes I think I should be more transparent about where we are financially or be better about asking for support. A lot of people assume (incorrectly) that I’m a millionaire. Proximity to people with power and fame can have this effect. But I’m firmly middle class and completely fine with it. Life is trade offs. I’ve turned down a lot of opportunities (money) in the past five years in order to maintain our independence. I know, I’m a hero. Jokes aside, it was a gamble that I hope pays off in the long run, but there are other things that pay dividends already—and those things, such as freedom, are priceless.
There are moments, usually when I’m filled with fear and insecurity, that I worry I made a huge mistake turning down financial stability. I am providing for a family after all! But this week many of you confirmed what I believe: there is value in remaining independent and I’m right to assume it’s something my audience also values about us.
The only reason I want more resources is the ability to make more (and higher quality) content. Of course I’d also like some relief from the elephant sitting on my chest; the month-to-month “how long are we gonna be able to keep this train on the tracks?” If even a small fraction of our audience becomes paid supporters it makes a huge difference— it doesn’t take much for us to go from surviving to thriving.
So for those of you who were able to step up this week, thank you, thank you, thank you. It made a difference, not just for our ability to keep going, but for my psyche. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your faith in us. It makes me want to work even harder.
I’ll be in New York City this Thursday to Sunday. If you’re able to come to the Dissident Dialogues event where I’m speaking, please do!

Finally just became a paid subscriber. Always touch all the buttons on each DF episode. All the way back to the beginning. Sorry it took so long. Please keep DF going. I don’t need more production quality. It’s great. Just need more views. I can’t believe it’s still stuck where it’s been for years. It’s complete BS and I’ll continue to sing your praises. Also got my wife to watch regularly.
Thanks for calling out all the crazy on both sides. DF is better than what the daily show was at its peak.
