This could be my worst take ever … but I can’t help but wonder how much of the blowback that she received initially (and maybe still) had to do with jealousy from other women because she’s pretty.
I am always appreciative of people who are willing to do this. My first real experience of this was someone who demanded an apology from an organization that I was volunteering with. They objected to a prize they won, saying it was sexist.
What I advised the organization is not to apologize. Especially because we didn’t do anything wrong. We gave people something worth hundreds of dollars for free and they complained. There’s no way that this was going to end well. As a result, the organization didn’t apologize and the problem went away.
Since then I have made it a point never to apologize. At least as long as I didn’t do anything wrong. This came in handy during the CoVid era.

This can definitely be a factor - I’ve watched similar happen in real life.
