I also bought cigarettes for my mom - at the age of 5.

As a baby boomer I grew up in San Francisco and we too had it made. We would be gone all day, ride our bikes to Golden Gate park, take the street car to China town (but crates of firecrackers), then ride the cable cars to Ghirardelli Square, sneak into the wax museum, steal desserts from the Fairmont hotel, and as we got older, have an adult buy our beer, have egg fights at Halloween. never worried about bad things. Our parents wanted us out of the house. Good times. Oh, we had a 22 rifle shooting range underneath the gym- yes, in San Francisco.

Thank you for this interview. I really enjoyed it. I think the discussion on gut instinct and respecting our fear is spot on.

I can't even tell you the things we, we kids, did at the deer lease, our parents knew some but mostly not...with fireworks, guns, motorcycles and the last few years with the dune buggies...🤯...🤠...❤️. Our last year there i drove "the thing", a standard, back 300 miles without my drivers license. They had me in the rocking chair till we hit Dallas. Handed it off to the adult, who was suppose to drive it back but hurt his back while we were packing up.

LOVED MY CHILDHOOD 💖!!!

Another poignant part of your conversation. At 1:04:00, you stated "But the right doesn't really want me either." ...

Admittedly, I'm not good at keeping up on anyone's shows/podcasts. However, yours gets the lion's share of my available time. What I am getting at is that my perception of your stance is more in the middle (with some fluctuation, which is only natural). Unfortunately, people the past several years have become extremely polarized; tribal even. So when they agree with you, you're the "political savior" (esp when an AfAm takes a conservative stance), then they become turncoats when their confirmation bias is not appeased. As a double-nickle gen-x'er, I find this extremely immature! When they are online, it's like the kids have figured out how to be naughty in church without getting the shit squeezed out of their knee!

Sure! We could spend a week coming up with examples! One person in particular whom I see take a lot of flak from both sides is Simon Ateba "X: @simonateba". He reports it as he sees it; with *some* interjections of his opinions here and there (with a slight conservative. slant). The Right will show their *appreciation* for his statements and reinforce whatever he states, But when he leans the other way with his reporting and/or his statements? Holy cow, they run him through the wringer!

I guess that I just like where you stand, while recognizing others' opinions, and using humor to give them the proverbial statement of "Lighten up, Francis!" when they get a bit ridiculous. :)

Great show, Bridget!

I completely agree with you two about prioritizing your safety over someone's comfort & feelings! I have tried to teach my daughters about this; teaching them to be in communication with their guts and act accordingly. Don't put themselves into a riskier situation where the outcome could be unpleasant and out of their control ... Don't be afraid so much as be smart and aware.
