Media outlets spent the past two weeks whining about Trump’s renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Politico spazzed about dead ducks. Then The Hill frantically scooped an update: “Two more ducks found dead in the reflecting pool.” As if a mass-murdering dictator had executed another infant. Lower the flags for the ducklings killed by fascism! Activists gnawed at the pool’s lining like piranhas in a river of hot dogs, then stomped through the water like Jenny from Forrest Gump, only somehow dumber and more crass. Because, in their performative tantrums, the Activist Class has lost all fidelity to heroism.
Only a villain would look at this national monument and hate its polyurethane and its “American Flag” blue in honor of our nation’s birthday. It’s hard for most people to understand the cynicism of someone who constantly wants to contaminate and destroy. As if the entire universe is nothing but their personal mirror.
Hey! What are you doing? We’re not supposed to look away from the Reflecting Pool. What if we miss breaking news? Apparently some militant activists are going to dump noxious chemicals into the water so more cute animals die. If you keep talking about elections, you’re going to overlook this manufactured scandal. Enormous fire? I don’t see an enormous caustic fire gripping the horizon like a noose. Oh that fire, the one with the skull-shaped plumes of death-smoke and satanic howling and rants about how 9/11 was justified because America is Islamophobic? No, no, no. Hah. That’s actually a whirling super-miasma that envelops everything uniquely good in American life until society is vulgar, humorless, violent, and ugly. Don’t be dramatic: the deadly blaze is much less concerning than the Reflecting Pool algae. Just make sure the World Cup Europeans stay away from it. They shouldn’t have to witness that hellscape until they get back home.
