Politically Homeless - A Man Without A Party
Real people, real letters, real problems, no solutions.
Politics these days have become so divided and divisive that it’s become the norm to view the other side of the aisle as “the enemy”. People are being told to “pick a side” and that there’s no room for middle ground. We here at Phetasy believe that there are a lot more people in the middle than politicians and the media would have us believe.
We’re collecting stories from the ever growing number of people who are finding themselves Politically Homeless and posting them here on Substack. If you have moved from conservative to liberal, or liberal to conservative, if you feel you’ve stayed in the same place and your party has swerved drastically away from you, if you had a moment that awakened you to the insanity and hypocrisy on both sides, if you keep your mouth shut anytime a political topic comes up because you’re afraid your opinion will cause you to lose friends or your job, you’re not as alone as you might think.
Our goal is to shine a light on people’s earnest, individual experiences and show them they’re not alone.
Some letters have been edited for clarity and brevity. If you’re politically homeless and would like to share your story, please email us at iampoliticallyhomeless@gmail.com. All submissions will remain anonymous.
Letter 26:
1/22/23
It was term 2 Obama, before primary season, and I was resting comfortably in the Carly Fiorina camp. Conservative pub, business wizard, and hey, why not a woman?
Then a friend on Facebook ventured that he was going with Trump, and it didn't take me long to jump on the train.
I was totally there for the first term, and still on board for the second. Then, he lost the election and his mind on the same day. The entire "stolen election" thing, I watched patiently as he lost court decision after decision and it proved to be total BS.
I blame the 2020 Georgia Senate runoff on him. He did nothing for the two months after the election but whine about his own situation, with a little help in Georgia we might have had the Senate for the last two years.
Then of course, there's the insurrection. I still know way too many people claiming "that's all BS" and I just shake my head in disbelief.
OK, that's the big reason I no longer have a home in the Republican Party, or maybe it's secondary to this: I'm not a pro-life Republican. I'm one of those wacky "viability idiots". Fetal viability outside of the womb, medical stats set the number at 20 weeks into term. That's my line in the sand. Before 20 its a legal abortion, 21 weeks or more you can call it "murder" if you wish.
If you think about it, both extreme views on abortion are just that. Extreme and unattainable. "At conception" is just as ridiculous as "at full term". Ask your local zealot to deny that one.
So here I sit, a man without a party. I'm old (68), I have nobody depending on me except 2 cats, and their care is written into my will. Things could get very dark for me in my declining years. Oh well.
Sincerely,
Politically Homeless

Since when did a court "decide against" Trump regarding the 2020 election? As I recall, no court would take a case so there was no "deciding." Look, January 6 was NOT an "insurrection." No one was attempting to overthrow the government, they were merely protesting, which is every American's right. Now that video of the day has been released, we're going to see that the protestors were LET IN the capitol. Anyone who actually paid attention already knows there was no rioting and that damage to the building was minor. I'm not a Republican, I just don't think they're are as bad as Democrats, who are nothing but Marxist in every respect and are mostly brain-dead due to all that dope they took,
Another great letter, despite the sadness of them all in many ways.
