Politically Homeless - Depressed & Disgusted
Real people, real letters, real problems, no solutions.
Politics these days have become so divided and divisive that it’s become the norm to view the other side of the aisle as “the enemy”. People are being told to “pick a side” and that there’s no room for middle ground. We here at Phetasy believe that there are a lot more people in the middle than politicians and the media would have us believe.
We’re collecting stories from the ever growing number of people who are finding themselves Politically Homeless and posting them here on Substack. If you have moved from conservative to liberal, or liberal to conservative, if you feel you’ve stayed in the same place and your party has swerved drastically away from you, if you had a moment that awakened you to the insanity and hypocrisy on both sides, if you keep your mouth shut anytime a political topic comes up because you’re afraid your opinion will cause you to lose friends or your job, you’re not as alone as you might think.
Our goal is to shine a light on people’s earnest, individual experiences and show them they’re not alone.

Letter 15:
I've honestly just been ignoring the [election] results. Because I don't think they matter.
Which pisses me off. No matter who is elected they're just going to vote party lines or follow the lobbyists. Nobody actually "represents" their state anymore. Everytime I would hear a commercial about so and so being bad for the state I would just roll my eyes. They're not running for the state. They don't care about the constituents. Local office is different. Governors, mayors, AG, etc that all hopefully makes a difference. But the color of the seat in congress? Nah.
So here I am feeling more politically homeless then ever. I don't agree with extremism of any sort, I don't like the lack of compromise. I don't like the "sides" and "winning" This isn't a contest. These are people's lives. These are decisions with long term consequences. Not just a victory for somebody to brag about.
But unfortunately I don't see anything changing. Nobody is willing to stand up to the status quo and even if they were they would be so ostracized by their own party that nothing would be able to be accomplished. We're just going to see more and more outrage and disgust and pandering to the lowest scum.
So I'm depressed. And disgusted. And have pretty much no hope. I've always been a cynic but now I'm just wishing I could go live under a rock. Quite literally. I'm wondering when that intergalactic superhighway is going to be built and this whole earth will just be no more.
I don't really have much faith left in humanity. It's not just the politics it's also just society as a whole. There isn't a sense of community anymore. It doesn't feel like anyone wants to help out others unless they can post a selfie about it with all the right hashtags. It's much more important to be **seen** doing the right thing and have everyone know which side (ugh the sides again) you're on. And here we are going into the holiday season. Where it's once again all about appearance and selfishness and capitalism.
So how am I feeling today? Not great. So I'll hang out with my dogs and try to shut the world out. And keep on keeping on. Because at least that part is in my control.
Thanks for asking how I'm feeling. Thanks for giving me a place to write to. Thanks for listening.
Sincerely,
Politically Homeless

I could have written this letter. It is how I feel in the darkest of moments. I no longer identify with a side or party. It feels like we are all kids in the worst divorce and rabid fans at the Super Bowl frothing over our team winning. There is no pause to think about logical decisions, it just seems as though most people just embrace what their side would do and act accordingly. In my opinion, all politicians are the scum of the earth, puppets of those in power. To think there is one good side and one evil one is delusional.
As far as humanity is concerned, it is easy to throw one’s hands up in the air and want to hide in a cave. I feel this way all the time. The people who are selflessly helping are not posting selfies. They are too busy working. I look for the small things that give me hope. Whenever I can, I do whatever little I can. I’ll smile at some hardened old man I pass on the street and I don’t give a F if he scowls. The world can go to hell, but Imma keep spreading glitter and love because my behavior and outlook is all I can control.
Right there with you 😞
