Greetings from the Phetaverse!
Happy New Year! And…we’re off. Things already feel chaotic and scattered to me. I’m not sure if I’m projecting or if it’s just modern life or the overall state of the world. Busy, busy, busy. Go, go, go…where does the time go? Is it is speeding up? Am I falling behind?
If this feeling had a song, it would be Radiohead’s “Like spinning plates”, a song which will forever remind me of a road trip my sister, Lara, and I took in 2002 to Ithaca, NY, in the dead of winter so I could audition for The Real World. (A story for another day and a lifetime ago. Maybe I’ll write about it for #WriteClub which we started back up in the New Year—join us!)
It’s great to be back, though. Back to making jokes on Dumpster Fire and on stage; back to writing and podcasting with fascinating people like this week’s conversation with Sarah Hepola; back to engaging with the world after weeks of hibernation. Although my happy place might be in my kitchen making sourdough while listening to Radiohead and playing with the Child—it’s nice to get back into a routine and have some structure. It’s going to be an interesting year. Let’s capture the momentum of starting anew and run with it.
My sister, Lara, is the artist who does all the art for this newsletter and it’s her birthday so please make her day and buy some of her work! Email laracullenstudio@gmail.com to inquire or contact her.
