One of my favorite things about getting outside my comfort zone are the facets of myself I discover, that I never would have been able to know. When I moved to the West Coast, I learned that I’m actually quite more outdoorsy than I thought I was after all those years living in Minnesota and New England. Who would have guessed? Not me. I loathe the cold, so I wasn’t keen on spending too much time outside.
It was in my late twenties and thirties that I discovered my love of hiking. And national parks. It wasn’t until I was 30, I learned that I passionately love the desert. I’m like a lizard—that dry heat is my happy place. At age 33, I went north in search of work on a weed farm.
