Your home is on fire. Grab five items (assume all people and animals are safe). What did you grab?
If all people and animals are safe then I have everything I need and nothing else matters—but for the sake of this prompt it’s pretty easy.
What this exercise really does is put into perspective how superfluous all the stuff is in my life that we think we “need.” Sure I need all my cameras and recording equipment—but I can replace it. Sure, I love my books, but they can burn.
It also makes me realize how much of my life is digital. My pictures and book proposal are all in the cloud. I’ve lost too many computers and had too many phones stolen not to take advantage of storage that isn’t just located on the actual device.
