Let's take a baby as an example. Whether you think of this child as a blank slate or one pre-loaded with some predilections, it is (one assumes) now part of a family...a type of construct into which it is expected to function. The patterns it adopts are (hopefully) those of that family. Language use too. The subjects which are presented to it are age appropriate as determined by the parents.
Underlying question: Is the human brain, as a result of eons of evolution, suited to the absorption and organization of the information it is expected to receive over a lifetime?
Now let's look at a programmed "intelligence". The blankest of slates. It must be taught HOW to think...then it is thrown to the wolves (an online community) who will not only feed it a broad range of "facts" and responses, but also a range of experiences for which the AI has no means of understanding. A wall of noise. Millions of voices. Is it any wonder the poor thing goes crazy? Especially given the types of humans who troll the online space?
Resulting question: How long should an AI be allowed to mature before it receives input from the public? A childhood of sorts. A personality is allowed to develop. The accumulation of "good" knowledge will act as a shield against the strange inputs it will receive from the public.
Closing question: Who will be chosen to parent the AI?
