I am for sure the low man on the totem pole but I like to think that my job is the actual physical asshole of the dept. If I close up everyone in the department will have to shit out their mouths.
Currently we are implementing a new HR system that is also going to handle our internal inventory of computer equipment for staff as well. This program is an HR program its NOT an inventory system. Its a freaking disaster and we are going to have to set up an external database to track things and put things in manually into the new system that was mandated to us by the higher ups. I guess i should not bitch to much as a lot of my private sector friends have been fired laid off or companies closed and they are scrambling to find work in their 40s and 50s. In the end all of us Gen xers are going to end up as bartenders and waitstaff in our retirement years because its the only thing that will make sense to us.
I do not work for the federal government but I work for the state. We do all sorts of stupid time wasting email shit. They brought in a bunch of management consultants that are just fucking things up. Its the worst. I log in to email only twice per day otherwise I will get nothing done.
I also have a job where I have to go into the office. My whole small team goes in on site. No one else does as they are either hybrid or full work from home. I have no idea when these people actually work anymore. I get chat messages and emails at all hours of the day and on the weekend that I do not see until I am in the office during my normal work time. Yes I am bitter because my job is NOT work from home but I make up for it in other ways. Rather than give maximum effort 40 hours a week I give max effort like 2 hours a day, I also do not leave my house to drive to work until I am supposed to start work. I go for walks at lunch, rain shine or freezing cold. I also do not think about work as soon as I arm the door when I leave until I come back in the next morning to disarm the door lock.
