Enjoy the snow, Pham. My kids are so hyped that they won’t stop shouting “6-7!” Lol.
A few years ago, I read a poem about light to Kamal Ravikant in the makeup room of Mercury Studios. This was the pre-interview for Kamal’s appearance on Glenn Beck’s podcast. I’d spent the previous day reading Kamal’s book Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends on It, and during a break, I picked up a book at random: Charles Wright’s collection Black Zodiac, a weird gathering of poems that earned Wright the 1998 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry.
The fight against light and darkness. The compelling power of belief. The search for God. The weight of death in opposition to life. I read Kamal the final stanza of “Disjecta Membra,” the final poem from that collection. (“Disjecta Membra” is Latin for “scattered parts.”)
Take a loose rein and a deep seat,
John, my father-in-law, would say
To someone starting out on a long journey, meaning, take it
easy,
Relax, let what’s taking you take you.
I think of landscape incessantly,
mountains and rivers, lost lakes
Where sunsets festoon and override,
The scald of summer wheat fields, light-licked and poppy-
smeared.
Sunlight surrounds me and winter birds
doodle and peck in the dead grass.
I’m emptied, ready to go. Again
I tell myself what I’ve told myself for almost thirty years—
Listen to John, do what the clouds do.
DUMPSTER FIRE - EPISODE #281
Democrats Are Falling For Commie Propaganda
As anti-ICE protests rage on in Minneapolis following the death of Rene Good, former CNN anchor Don Lemon joined a mob of protestors as they flooded into a church during their Sunday service.
WALK-INS WELCOME - EPISODE #374
A Revolution Against Tech Is Coming
Mike Solana joins Bridget for a fascinating conversation about America’s shifting political fault lines, why critiquing tech is critiquing power, and the coming Luddite backlash. They discuss Mamdani’s Marxist housing advisor calling for the seizure of private homes (especially from the white middle class), and then crying about it when confronted with questions, the social justice ideas that escaped academia, why Solana thinks that “real leftism” is coming, and why social media is probably net negative.
DUMPSTER FIRE - EPISODE #282
Europe Is Garbage
A little over a year ago, Trump was working at McDonald’s and now he’s speaking at Davos. The European mind can’t comprehend that kind of hustle and upward mobility.
