But it wasn’t the smell of the dance studio or a piece of music that captured my memory. It was a pastry.

Tell us about a sensation — a taste, a smell, a piece of music — that transports you back to childhood.

There weren’t many routines in my childhood what with all the moving—but there was a brief year, year and a half where my mom or dad took us to dance class every single Saturday. I had the trifecta jazz/tap/ballet. Perhaps because this was one of the few things we did consistently for a while, the smells are more ingrained in my brain. The sensations creating a groove in my brain connected to doing something that I loved—dancing.

But it wasn’t the smell of the dance studio or a piece of music that captured my memory. It was a pastry.
