ARIZONA
A PHOTO ESSAY
Arizona was slightly a bust for us the couple of times we were there. We were in and out of “The Grand Canyon State” on our journey. Sean and I have two more cousins who live there, one in Prescott and one in Flagstaff. Phetasy’s brilliant graphic designer lives in AZ as well. We spent a lot of time trying to meet up with the people we knew, but failed miserably, only seeing one of the three people we were there to see. We just couldn’t get the timing right it seemed. It was definitely some of the more aimless driving we did on the tour. Good thing the scenery is so astounding .
There is something so prehistoric about the landscape in Arizona. It’s like stepping into a set from The Flintstones. And there is something really creepy about it too. I drove through a lot of America’s sketchy little towns, but there are towns in Arizona that you pray you don’t get a flat tire in. If you’ve never seen the 1997 film U-Turn (with bad ass cast Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Jon Voight, Billy Bob Thornton, Joaquin Phoenix, Claire Danes and Jennifer Lopez), rent it and you will know exactly what I am talking about.

On our way to Prescott, we stopped in the middle of Nowhere, AZ for a beer. This bar was amazing. We were also on a mission to see the Grand Canyon, which we did…kind of. We made it to the site, but it was freezing cold and most of the campgrounds were closed. It also cost $20 to stay the night and the weather was too crappy to bother.
