Ahhh Santa Fe....We were only here one night. There must have been a time when this place was legitimately cool. I liked it, don’t get me wrong, it’s truly a beautiful city with architecture that is soothing to the soul and a fascinating history; but it was so yuppie.
It had a particular vibe that irritated me like an itch in my inner ear. It feels (and appears) that Santa Fe is filled with a bunch of arrogant writers, artists and intellectuals sitting around indulging in their fantasies of living in the wild southwest, talking politics and decorating their adobe style ranch houses with rugs and ceramic pots----behaving like a bunch of d-bags.
Everything was pretty expensive so I am assuming these fine "artists" are probably somehwhat "successful" and probably rather "intelligent". Much more intelligent then myself. But at least I don't flip out at the poor guy who works at Midas because my car is going to take 10 minutes longer than Midas Man estimated. We witnessed many instances of the yuppie-wannabe-cowboy syndrome; acts of snobbery and superiority too numerous and condescending to recount.
The only thing that felt truly genuine were the street vendors selling their jewelry, our bartender/waiter at dinner and the Mexican food we had. It was probably the best and most authentic Mexican meal I have ever had inside the U.S. I wish I could remember the name of the place. The margaritas were damn good too. Beware: at 7,000 feet above sea level—the booze will hit ya harder than you expect.
Will the cool young people in Santa Fe who happen upon this site please write me! I know there is a side to this city that's got to be rad...
