On our way from California to Washington State, we made a last minute decision and opted to drive up the Oregon Coast seeing that we had the time and didn’t know when we would ever have the opportunity again. It was a decision that cost us an extra 7 hours in the car, taking us through some of the most beautiful parts of the country I have ever seen; meandering through wine country, Humboldt county and forests of redwoods glazed in fog. It was one of the best decisions we made on the trip.
Even though Oregon has that same stupid rule that Jersey does not allowing you to pump your own gas, it has some of the most spectacularly breathtaking coastline I have ever been lucky to lay my eyes on. We took our time, stopping to take pictures, have a picnic and explore the local habitat.
After a long day of driving, we found a place to camp right by the ocean. We pitched our tent, grabbed some Pacificos and headed down to the water just in time for the sunset. That night we made some new friends at the campsite and fell asleep to the sound of the Pacific Surf.
Day two of driving only got better giving us views that looked like they came straight out of The Goonies. (The Goonies was in fact set and filmed in Northern Oregon). Farther north up the coast we took a scenic route through the three capes; it was here we stumbled upon a huge sand dune that we promptly climbed and then ran down. It was amazing.
I ran into some kids smoking buds up here. I can't say that I blame them. Even if you aren't a smoker, this view makes you want to get stoned.
