I reside in beautiful Brooklyn, NY. I'm currently in sunny Los Angeles, on a business trip. I just recently went to a Hip Hop show out here in LA called "The Boom Box". The Boom Box takes place the first week of every month... In the month of February the Boom Box featured a J Dilla Tribute with Elzhi, Blu & Exile, and Jay Dee's DJ.... House Shoes.
Here's my blog about it, hope you enjoy it!

LA Goes Hard
So I got here to Los Angeles on saturday afternoon.... horrible flight....
heads need to stay away from united airlines, fuck the bullshit... jetblue
that shit! 4real...

...anyways... I make it out to Chinatown for this month's Boom Box show which is also a Dilla tribute, with Blu & Exile, Elzhi, and House Shoes...

First off the place is not that big... and there were mad heads out here...
the whole place is ridiculously packed! mad females everywhere!.... all kinds
of races and colors...

So on one corner they got a circle going and b-boys and girls are doing
their thing!.... it was great to see that look again... I mean heads had
their adidas jumpsuits and everything... this whole show felt like a early
90's house party for real yo!

The "stage" which is just an elevated section of the floor is filled with
heads cause it's soo fucking packed that there really was no space left...

Blu gets on the mic and does a bunch of joints from his album with Exile, a
couple of them I didn't recognize... This was my first time seeing Blu
perform... dude is really a good entertainer... he def. gets down.
At one point he literally walked in the middle of the crowd, in the middle
of a verse and did a couple of joints as listeners enjoyed Blu's rhymes and
potent energy... Almost like he created his own circle with everyone there... keep in mind there is no room for him to create no kind of
circle in the middle of the overpopulated crowd... Dude did this twice over
the course of his set. I thought it was cool cause I ain't never seen that...
talk about getting down with your fans...

After Blu's set this other cat did a joint... and Elzhi followed after
that...

El did his usual joints.... witness my growth 1 and 2, the joint on the
minstrel show, some slum shit towards the end.... and other random ish....
Illa J did a couple of Dilla tracks in between Elzhi's set. I gotta say,
Illa J got a lot better than last time I saw him with Slum Village and Phat Kat....
A LOT BETTER....  maybe it's cause he's doing Dilla verses but still...

House Shoes closed the night by playing nothing but the D's classics!

It truly was an amazing fucking night!... I had no clue LA got down like
this!.... I mean, if you had the same lineup in BK, heads prob. would not
come out and support like this!

I mean even the bartender was bobbin' his head hardcore to Dillaness! ....

R.I.P. J Dilla aka Jay Dee (February 7, 1974 - February 10, 2006)

Happy B-Day Jay Dee... you trully are missed brotha!
We love you, see you above the clouds...
